Petr (Peter in English) Veliky was born on may 30th, 1672 in Moscow. At the young age of 10, Peter was proclaimed Tsar, the Russian ruler. He was forced to share power with his brother Ivan due to constant civil unrest, and was kept under the watchful eye of his sister, Sophia. In 1689, though, Sophia was overthrown and sent to a convent, and Ivan died in 1696, leaving 24-year-old Peter to the throne. Peter's next few years weren't particularly prominent, but he did begin to put his vision of a European Russia into action.
